Director of Development                                                                                                 

Job Summary: Chesterfield Day School, a small, private Independent school serving grades 18 months through sixth grade, is currently seeking a part-time Development Director to oversee our fund raising initiatives and donor relations program. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing our non-profit fundraising campaigns, communicating with current and prospective donors, cultivating lasting relationships, and building a stronger development team for our organization. This position involves managing individual and corporate gifts as well as planned and annual giving campaigns.


  • To devise and manage a development program designed to attract the maximum gift support possible to the institution. This program will include management and implementation of the annual fund, planned giving program, and major capital gifts solicitation and documentation; research and creation of corporate and foundation proposals.

  • To help develop and coordinate all aspects of the major gifts campaign.

  • To keep the head of school informed on a weekly basis of the fund-raising activities of this office and provide support and research for head of school’s development meetings and donor calls.

  • To develop a plan to increase alumni and parental engagement and increase involvement in the institution.

  • To work collaboratively with the director of communications to create a coordinated publications and printing program which will most effectively communicate with our various constituencies, including but not limited to an annual report, periodic newsletters, e-communications and website information.

  • To conduct research and create a solicitation for the school's key prospects.

  • To serve as staff support for the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees.

  • To oversee gift processing of all gift income including gift acknowledgement, providing appropriate gift receipts and  maintaining all giving records of donors to the school. Develop acknowledgement reports for the head of school’s action.

  • To develop and lead a professional and volunteer staff to carry out the activities of this office.

  • To perform other duties as assigned by the head of school.

  • To support the school and its leadership.


  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • 5+ years’ fundraising experience

  • Foundation relationship and grant writing experience

  • Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite

  • Excellent written, interpersonal and verbal communication skill


Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary to be determined based on candidate experience and education

  • Generous paid time off policy, based on hours worked
