At CDS, we are committed educating our students for both academics and character. Central to this commitment is parent partnership, as we realize how crucial it is that we travel this journey together. The following resources provide context to the whole of our program and also serve as excellent resources for prospective and existing parents alike.

“Montessori Madness!” is a parent-to-parent argument for Montessori education that is widely used by schools, teacher training programs, and parents as an accessible introduction to Montessori. At CDS, we give a copy of this best seller to all incoming parents, as Montessori is the basis of our personalized education from Toddlers through First Grade. CDS was founded in 1962 as the first Montessori school in St. Louis, and we continue to provide a premier Montessori program that is second to none.
The Blessing of a Skinned Knee
by Wendy Mogel Ph.D.
CDS grads are highly sought after by area secondary schools for their academic preparedness, yes — and also because they are widely understood to be “good kids.” We know this doesn’t happen by accident. In fact, character education is a critical facet our start-to-finish premier preparation, and parent partnership is certainly central to this success as well.
We give a copy of “The Blessing of a Skinned Knee” to our parents as a resource for raising self-reliant, compassionate, and ethical children — the “good kids” CDS is known for. With warmth and humor, Dr. Wendy Mogel distills the wisdom of both ancient teachings and contemporary psychological insight, into nine “blessings” that address key parenting issues including the following:
- Teaching respect for adults
- Helping your child develop independence and self-control
- Keeping expectations in line with your child’s temperament
- Meal-time battles
- Coping with frustration
- Avoiding over-scheduling and overindulgence
