Our Head of School
Matt Virgil’s appointment as the CDS Head of School in 2011 was the culmination of an extensive national search. Matt has 15 years of experience in educational leadership. He has been a teacher, curriculum director and served in several leadership roles in independent schools, including our St. Louis Montessori schools.
The CDS Board of Trustees chose Matt because of his:
- integrity and intelligence
- knowledge of independent schools
- understanding of the CDS curriculum which bridges Montessori with secondary school preparatory methods
- shared belief in the mission of Chesterfield Day School to provide a personalized education of unparalleled excellence for students of diverse backgrounds
It is easy to see Matt’s vast knowledge and understanding of independent schools when reviewing his credentials, but Matt’s qualifications are even broader than his impressive resume. Matt did not just join the staff at CDS, he quickly became part of the community and culture. The students enjoy seeing “Mr. Virgil” in his roller blades on skating days, singing the school song at Monday morning gatherings, or in his weekly classes with 6th grade students that focus on the secondary school application process. The parents and faculty find him approachable, compassionate and receptive.
