Annual Fund

One of the key differences between a public elementary school and a private independent school is the source of funding to meet an annual operating budget. Independent schools are exactly that: independent of public mandates for curriculum, staffing, and programs, and consequently, independent of government or corporate funding. Governed by a self-pepetuating Board of Trustees, the annual operating budget is established to cover the basic expenses of a quality program designed to meet the school's mission. Typically, tuition alone covers most of the annual expense per child, with 10-20% of the cost of education for each child provided through voluntary, tax deductible donations to the Annual Fund. Through Annual Fund, independent schools can provide excellence because parents, past parents, grandparents, alumni, and friends collectively donate proportionate to their means. Each year, donors are asked to fund the difference between the tuition charged and the true cost of education for every child at the school.

Parent volunteers call every family to meet our goals of raising funds and 100% participation. Annual gifts are typically made with cash or stock. Gifts of appreciated securities provide a double tax benefit: donors get the full value as a charitable donation and avoid capital gains taxes on built-up appreciation.
