Special Events

This event, held on the Sunday preceding the first day of school, welcomes CDS students and parents back to the campus after summer vacation, giving everyone an opportunity to greet faculty, staff, and friends and to tour the classrooms.

At the beginning of each school year parents gather at a casual pot luck dinner to meet new CDS families and reconnect with old friends.

Each Fall, grandparents and special friends are invited to campus to enjoy a morning of fun with their CDS student.  In the weeks before this important day students work hard to learn a special musical performance.  Our visitors also have the opportunity to visit classrooms, meet faculty and administration, and learn more about the exciting activities going on at Chesterfield Day School. Chesterfield Day School recognizes that families are the most important influences in a child’s life. Grandparents and Special Persons Day is designed to invite these special guests to School and have a chance for children to show first-hand the quality of their learning and growth.

The Talent Show transforms the gym into a café, and students demonstrate their performing arts abilities in front of family and friends.

Special days are designated for dads and moms of preschool and K-1 students to spend time with their children in the classroom, allowing students to share their daily work and routines with their parents.

The annual Auction Benefit is an opportunity for parents to gather in support of the School.  The event consists of dinner, live and silent auction and dancing.

The fall soccer season ends with a grade six parents vs. child soccer match, which is well attended by families from all ages and considered a rite of passage to anticipate with joy.

Perhaps the biggest crowds of parents, past-parents and alumni gather each year for the annual Sixth Grade Play. Long considered a hallmark of the CDS commitment to public speaking, philanthropy, and language arts, the plays showcase the talents of every sixth grade student in another rite of passage held just days before graduation.

Those who have given significant gifts to the Annual Fund each year are invited to the 1962 Society party, named in honor of the year of the School’s founding.

The Spring Picnic is a wonderful end-of-the-year event for the whole school with family-friendly activities and refreshments.
