Susie Sullivan has been teaching mathematics to fifth and sixth graders at Chesterfield Day School since 2000. Fifth and sixth grade students at Chesterfield Day School work at their own individualized pace using the Singapore series. Along with guiding students in a mathematics learning journey, Susie is also the advisor to the school store. She oversees the student responsibilities of becoming budding leaders and entrepreneurs. Susie started her career in banking with a finance degree from the University of Missouri. As her children entered school, she became intrigued by the academic process and expectations. A friend suggested that they become assistants at the preschool and she started developing her passion for education. After two years in the preschool, Susie taught mathematics at a small independent school in St. Louis for eight years. Simultaneously, she worked on acquiring a master’s in teaching mathematics at the middle school level. When her last child graduated from this school, Susie had her masters in hand from Webster University and was teaching all subjects to fourth grade. The opportunity at Chesterfield Day School to teach mathematics only and to advise a class on running the school store has been enriching and rewarding. In her spare time, Susie loves to visit with family and friends, walk, play with her grandchild, read, do jigsaw puzzles, sew, do sudokus, and play games.
