Jan Schaberg is the grade K-6 music specialist for Chesterfield Day School. Jan grew up in Illinois, but moved to the St. Louis area when she started teaching in Missouri. After graduating cum laude from Southern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Music in performance and music education, she went on to earn a Master of Music in music education. Jan’s first teaching assignments included the Mehlville and Northwest R-1 School Districts. For more than 20 years, she’s brought the hands-on learning approach to CDS through her involvement with the Orff and Kodaly methods of music education. She is a member of the National and St. Louis Chapters of the American Orff Schulwerk Association and continues to attend national and local workshops in this important area. She has completed Levels I and II of her Orff Certification program through the University of Illinois and Webster University. In 2005, Jan was honored as a recipient of the Shining Stars Award for teachers who have made a difference in the lives of students. In 2009-10, she received the Teacher of Distinction award from the Independent Schools of St. Louis. Her husband is a partner in the firm of Stewart, Schaberg, and Turner Architects LLC. The Schabergs have two daughters.
