Rachael joins CDS after 10 years of teaching in public and independent schools in New York City. Her most recent posting was as a middle school Reading Specialist at the Stephen Gaynor School, where she taught reading and social studies to small groups, and also did one-to-one reading intervention for very bright children with learning differences. Before that she spent five years as a 3-6 and 6-9 teacher at Metropolitan Montessori School. She has had the great pleasure of seeing children learn and develop over the course of the three-year cycle, emerging as confident, passionate scholars. She began her teaching career as a New York City Teaching Fellow, teaching third grade at P.S. 114, a very challenged inner-city school in the Bronx. She has a B.A. from Rutgers University and an M.S. Ed. in Childhood Education from City College (CUNY). She has also completed coursework towards a Master's degree in Literacy at Hunter College (CUNY). In her free time, she likes exploring St. Louis with her very busy one-year-old son Lando and her husband Aravind. She also enjoys running, biking, reading, listening to audiobooks, and venturing out to new restaurants.
