Kindergarten/First Grade Teacher Cathy Pittman began her career in 1979 at Children's House Montessori School in Louisville, Kentucky. When her daughter began attending the school as a 3 year old, Cathy became an assistant teacher. She completed her American Montessori Society teacher certification for ages 3-6 years through Xavier University and became a full time teacher in 1981. Shortly after, a group of parents wanted to start an elementary Montessori school and encouraged her to take the elementary training for ages 6-9 years. She did this during the summer of 1986 at Midwest Montessori Teacher Training Center in Chicago, and worked for one year at New Dimensions Montessori Elementary School. In 1987, she followed her husband's job to Richmond, Virginia, where she worked at the Richmond Montessori School. Another job related move back to Louisville in 1994 resulted in her working at Kennedy Elementary in Louisville in a Montessori pilot program. The family spent time in Atlanta and Russellville, Arkansas before settling in St. Louis in 1999 where Cathy was able to continue her Montessori career at Chesterfield Day School. Cathy has a son and a daughter and is the grandmother of four, two of whom attend CDS. Cathy and her husband Bob live in Chesterfield.
