Elaine Larson, CDS Librarian, grew up on a farm in rural Mankato, Minnesota with horses, dogs, pigs, and sheep. That family farm is still there, and over the years, she has returned every summer with her own children to enjoy farm life at its best. Even though her children are now grown, she still returns every summer to the family farm. After her graduate studies at the local college where her mother taught English for 27 years, Elaine began library work in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at Nixon Elementary school. During her tenure there she served as President of the Teacher's Representative Council to the Superintendent and helped negotiate the teachers' contract for the Cedar Rapids school district for two years. Elaine's husband was transferred to Chattanooga, TN in 1979, and while there they had their first child, a daughter named Liv. When the Larsons came to St Louis with her husband's company, they had another child, a boy named Blake, who was born in 1984. When Blake was in Kindergarten, Elaine took another teaching/ library position with Rossman School, where she served as the librarian for four years. In 1994, Elaine came to CDS at the request of Head Dr. Barb Fulton. In 2003, she was the recipient of the Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award. Elaine continues to enjoy bringing her love of books to children and their parents.
